Our bariatricians are experienced medical professionals who have dedicated themselves to bariatric medicine. John B. Cleek, MD

Undergraduate School: Duke University

Medical School: Medical College of Georgia

Residency: Carolinas Medical Center

Board Certified: Internal Medicine and Bariatrics

John B. Cleek, MD, has been with Carolinas HealthCare System since 1985. He provides bariatric medical services to patients in need of weight management counseling in a medically supervised environment.

Dr. Cleek is board certified in internal medicine and bariatrics. He currently serves as medical director of Carolinas Weight Management & Wellness Center.

Dr. Cleek is a member of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM), the North American
Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) and the American College of Physicians (ACP).

Married and a father of two daughters, Dr. Cleek enjoys running in his free time.

                                                                                                                            

John Tomcho, DO, RD

Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Residency: Geisinger Medical Center

Board Certified: Family Medicine and Bariatrics

John Tomcho, DO, RD, is a medical bariatrician at Carolinas Weight Management & Wellness Center. He provides bariatric medical services to patients in need of weight management counseling in a medically supervised environment.

Dr. Tomcho is a member of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM), the North American
Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP), the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

Married and a father of two children, Dr. Tomcho enjoys cycling and hiking.

Christopher J. Runge, Ph.D.

Graduate School: University of Alabama

Pre-Doctoral Internship: Medical College of Georgia and the V. A. Consortium, Augusta, Georgia

Christopher J. Runge, Ph.D. is the psychological consultant for the center.

Dr. Runge has extensive experience working with adult and adolescent populations performing individual and group therapies, clinical evaluations and psychological testing. His training background includes neuropsychology, inpatient treatment and behavioral medicine.

Dr. Runge specializes in assisting clients with depression, anxiety, chronic health problems and persistent mental illness.

Dr. Runge has worked for a decade as a therapist and a supervisor in public mental health in Alabama and North Carolina. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Rowan Cabarrus Community College and the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Runge is a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
